Mission and objectives:

GOPP is the national body responsible for physical planning in Egypt at the regional, provincial, urban and rural levels. GOPP proposes physical and urban development policies and supervises implementation.

 

Organizational structure:

Chairperson of the Board (General Administration of

Technical Office, General Administration of Legal Affairs,

General Administration of Organization and Administration,

Public Relation and Communication Administration, Planning

and Monitoring Administration), Vice-chairperson for

research, studies and regional planning, Vice-chairperson for

plans and programmes, Central Administration for

Infrastructure and Central Administration for the General

Secretariat.

 

R and D activities/schemes:

GOPP undertakes technical studies and research in urban planning.

 

Training activities:

GOPP aims at the development of technical and conceptual

skills of its staff and undertakes training activities and human

resources management.

 

Meetings, conferences and seminars:

GOPP organizes and participates in several international,

regional and local conferences and seminars. For example,

GOPP organized recently a Regional Arab Conference on

''Environmental Balance and Sustainable Urban

Development'' in Cairo during 21 -24 February, 2000.

 

Public services:

GOPP provides the following services:

- Technical advice to local authorities;

- Regional planning and coordinating regional and national plans;

- Crisis planning;

- Issuing directives for action at the local level;

- Establishing norms and standards for industrial and urban agglomerations;

- Proposing new legislation and bylaws to complement existing regulations;

- Following up on project implementation nationwide.

 

Links to other organizations:

To achieve its purpose, GOPP cooperates with all relevant

bodies at the national, regional and international levels (such

as the New Urban Communities Organization, the General

Organization for Roads, the Egyptian General Survey

Authority, the Arab League and the United Nations Centre for

Human Settlements) and liaises with local and international

experts.

 

Parent body/affiliations:

GOPP is affiliated to the Egyptian Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities.
